Movie and TV star, Katherine Heigl, is known for her love of dogs. In fact, she bills herself as “the mad dog lady”. However, her love of dogs gave her a scare one day in March.
On March 23rd, in Los Angeles, while on her way to yoga class, the 33 year-old former Grey’s Anatomy star stopped to pet a passerby’s dog and was bitten on the arm.
Fortunately for Heigl, the dog was just playing with her and didn’t even leave a mark on her skin. However, she did look shocked for a moment when the juvenile animal grabbed her arm.
Heigl quickly gained her composure after she realized the dog was giving her a playful bite, laughed off the incident, shared a joke with the animal’s owner and then continued on her way to yoga class.
Katherine is a prodigious owner of dogs, currently owning seven pooches. Explaining her devotion to the animals, Heigl states, “She always wants animals in her life and that it is so worth it to walk down in the morning and have these dogs go bananas, so excited to see me.”
Although Katherine Heigl was just “almost being bitten by a dog”, this incident brings up the important point of keeping your distance from dogs you do not know. No matter how tempting it is to reach down and pet an animal, we cannot know its temperament or whether it perceives us as a threat. Always ask the owner before you pet a strange dog and find out if the dog will accept your advances in a friendly manner.
